sPlan is not your traditional full-fledged CAD app but rather a specialized diagramming tool designed for creating electrical, electronic and circuit schematics. The app seems to be addressing educators, hobbyists and professionals who need to draw circuit diagrams, but don’t really need advanced CAD features like 3D modelling.
The GUI is user-friendly and looks designed for beginners who perhaps don’t want to deal with complex CAD software. You can just grab any of the components from the left panel and place it on your drawing board, so you don’t need too much technical expertise to get around.
A noteworthy feature is that you can connect the components together by placing them next to each other. You no longer need to manually align or tweak connections, saving time and reducing errors.
The app comes with a vast library of electric components, but you can also draw your sketches from scratch. For this, you can use lines to show how switches or resistors are connected by wires or circles and rectangles to draw batteries or indicate a motor, for instance.
If your diagram is more complex, then you can use Bezier curves and polygons as well as the freehand lines. The app even lets you add text labels, bitmaps and descriptions.
You will be happy to learn that sPlan comes with a vast library of components that covers most of the things that you may include in a diagram. You can manage and organize them as you please meaning that you can renaming them for easier identification or have the app automatically assign and increment identifiers as you add them to save time.
In case you’re just getting started, you can enable the captions for the library so you can identify components easier while learning. Moreover, you can choose to remove some of them completely to avoid confusion.
